Functions of the Parent Council
Section 8 of the Parental Involvement Act 2006 sets out the functions of the Parent Council. These functions include:
To support the endeavours of those managing the school.
To raise standards of education in the school.
To secure improvements in the quality of education which the school provides
To develop to their fullest potential the personality, talents and mental and physical abilities of the pupils attending the school.
To make representations to the schools headteacher and to the education authority on specified areas.
To promote contact between the school, the Parent Forum, parents of prospective pupils of the school, and the community.
To report on the council’s activities to the members of the Parent Forum.
The right of Parent Councils to raise concerns with HMIE.
